Walking This Journey Together

Debbi McCune

Certified Dementia Doula

I am a Certified Dementia Doula, Certified Dementia Practitioner, and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional. Just as importantly, I am someone walking this path personally.

I am a care partner to my husband, Doug, who lives with mixed dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. My commitment to this work is deeply rooted in lived experience. Over the years, I have also supported my father and both of my in-laws through their dementia journeys. These experiences have shaped not only my professional training, but my understanding of the emotional, physical, and relational realities dementia brings to every family it touches.

While every journey is unique, one truth remains constant: no one should have to navigate dementia alone.

As a Dementia Doula and consultant, I provide strategic, relationship-centered guidance to individuals living with dementia and the people who love and care for them. From diagnosis through advanced stages and end-of-life considerations, I help families make sense of changing behaviors, prepare for transitions, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

In addition to my private consulting work, I am a co-founder of Living Well With Dementia Sisters, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community education, support, and dementia awareness. Through this leadership role, I collaborated with healthcare professionals, community partners, and families to expand access to dementia education and meaningful support.

I also serve as a resource to healthcare providers, senior service professionals, and community organizations through consultation, training, and educational programs focused on communication, behavior understanding, and person-centered care.

I recognize something that is rarely talked about: life after being a care partner. When the caregiving role changes or ends, it can bring profound grief, identity shifts, and uncertainty — often at a time when structured support quietly fades. I hold space for this transition as well, honoring the journey that came before while helping individuals find their footing in what comes next.

With a deep belief in person-centered care and a heart for advocacy, I offer steady guidance, practical insight, and compassionate presence — one step, one breath, and one decision at a time.
